Lauma Skruzmane is the Co-Managing Partner of Butler Reichline Skruzmane (BRS) LLP.

Lauma’s practice focuses on international disputes with a special expertise in representing corporate clients in antitrust and affirmative recovery matters. Lauma has acted for a wide range of clients in general commercial and antitrust litigation matters before the UK High Court, Court of Appeal and the Competition Appeal Tribunal and has been involved in developing, co-ordinating and delivering on antitrust litigation strategies across Europe. Clients value her desire to understand why and how resolution of any actual or potential litigation fits within their overall commercial strategy.

Prior to joining BRS, Lauma was part of antitrust litigation specialist teams at the London offices of international law firms Boies Schiller Flexner and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

Notable representative matters include:

  • Acting for MasterCard in its defence of the proposed £14bn opt-out collective action by consumers, which was among the largest claims brought in English legal history and one of the first collective actions under the UK’s collective action regime;
  • Acting for ABB in co-ordinating its defence of claims in the UK and other jurisdictions arising from the gas insulated switchgear and power cables cartels;
  • Acting for parties in follow-on litigation including arising from the synthetic rubber and the air cargo cartels; and
  • Acting for a multinational company in the pharma sector on an internal antitrust investigation and related restructuring of internal processes.

Lauma is fluent in Latvian and has a working level knowledge of French and Russian. Other linguistics projects include Arabic, Japanese and German.
